Rory Masterson

Newry-born Rory Masterson has been actively involved in the local arts scene across the island of Ireland since his youth. He has participated in various music competitions, including Feis Ceoil Dublin, Newry Feis, Ballymena Music Festival, and the Rotary Club of Comber Young Musician of the Year, where his talents were duly recognised.

Rory has since continued his studies at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. Here, he has been able to connect with like-minded musicians, which has helped foster his growth and understanding of orchestral and chamber music.

Rory has benefited from mentorship opportunities with renowned ensembles such as the BBC Philharmonic, Manchester Camerata, and Manchester Collective. Notably, Rory had the privilege of collaborating with internationally acclaimed Norwegian violinist and chamber musician, Henning Kraggerud, which enriched his understanding of orchestral and ensemble playing.

Rory's continued hard work and determination have positioned him as a highly esteemed candidate within his age group. In 2022-2023, he secured a place on the Ulster Orchestra's Professional Experience Scheme, further enhancing his skills and professional network. Subsequently, Rory has continued to contribute his talents to the Ulster Orchestra and other notable ensembles such as the Lindow Ensemble and Symphonia Viva in England.
