Orla McGarrity

Orla McGarrity is an Irish violinist based in Manchester where she graduated from the RNCM with a First-Class Honours Degree, studying with James Clark. She is currently pursuing a Masters under the tutelage of Cecily Ward and Pavel Fisher, also at the RNCM and has performed in masterclasses for Arabella Steinbacher, Nathaniel Vallois and Vera Vaidman. Recent performance highlights include playing works inspired by climate change at the Wigmore Hall with the RNCM Sinfonietta and performing alongside David Hoyle at his one-off show in Manchester's Aviva Studios.

A keen chamber musician, Orla is a member of the Talland Quartet who have won multiple prizes at the RNCM and were chosen to be one of four groups on the 23/24 Hans Keller Forum in Cambridge. Orla's love for curating chamber events led her to working as the Programming Assistant at the RNCM in 2022/23 and co-directing Enys Chamber Music Festival in Cornwall. She also enjoyed interning at Weesp Chamber Music Festival in the Netherlands and working as an ad hoc chamber music tutor at RNCM's Junior Department.

Having completed the Ulster Orchestra Professional Experience Scheme in 2022 and been a member of Ulster Youth Orchestra as a teenager, Orla is excited to be part of the the NI Opera orchestra in September.

She plays on a 1595 Antonio and Heironymous Amati violin generously loaned to her by the RNCM and is grateful to be supported by Help Musicians and The Lord and Lady Lurgan Trust.
